Last Saturday we had our AEKI (Advanced Extreme Kettlebell Instructor) course at the OLF Training Centre. If you haven’t done this course yet it’s al about learning the Sport side of Kettlebell lifting and how to adapt Kettlebells for advanced Strength and conditioning.
We had all attendees working hard all day. Not only did they all learn and practice advanced techniques in the Swing, Clean, Jerk, Snatch and Long Cycle (Clean and Jerk) they all performed timed sets in each of these exercises as well as in some of the assistance and preparatory exercises. Hard work- but all the guys managed!
As well as learning the specifics of the lifts for Kettlebell Sport, all of the advanced technqiues, programming and applications are extremely useful for training individuals and teams for sports conditioning. All of the lifts listed above are about the application of ground reaction force, that is applying force into the ground up through the body (the hips and trunk) and out through the upper limbs. This pattern and sequence is what occurs in sports whether it be punching, hitting a tennis ball or throwing a javelin. The guys were also put through a tough 20minute conditioning circuit to finish the day off.
As well as all of the participants being put through their paces we had a treat for them as well. Trojan Katarina was on hand to demonstrate a 10minute Long Cycle set. Kat hit a personal best in this set with a total of 105 reps with the 24kg bell, this is enough for a Master of Sports in all federations!
