Olympic Weightlifting Course 9th – 10th October

OLF held their last Olympic Weightlifting Course of the year over the weekend and what a way to finish! 21 trainers joined us at the OLF Training Centre to learn how to clean and jerk and snatch. Starting the first day with the snatch we took the group through all of the preparatory lifts from behind the neck presses to snatch balance and then to snatches from hang positions. The group were getting on really well so we went straight into full snatches from the floor and what a great response we had. There were some awesome snatches being pulled off and this set the tone for the rest of the weekend. With the trainers grasping the basics techniques in the snatch we moved onto the Clean and managed to get through that with no problems. We even had a few people cranking up the weights and going for it, that’s always a good way to keep the OLF coaches happy!

At the end of day 1 Tommy and Andy decided to do a few demos on the clean and jerk which ended in a nice little PB for Tommy, 115kg Clean and Jerk and 120kg Clean. Check out this video of the lads going for it!

Day 2 and the group came back to the OLF Training Centre bright and early with a few tight muscles. After Tommy’s mobility warm up Mark took them straight into the Jerks, with some great teaching points and technique drills the group were performing some great jerks. So with Mark satisfied we got the group in clean and jerks. Again this was another chance for them to stick some weight on and they had no problem in holding back. We even had a few of them stepping up to the platform going for 100kg’s! Check out the clip of the group practicing their technique

After a successful assessment, we gave the guys a couple of hours to discuss training programmes and different ways to implement lifting into their sessions. This was a good opportunity for them to get some energy on board before the big finale! In the afternoon we set the trainers a bit of a workout, starting with a barbell complex warm up in groups of 3 and then going into snatches and clean & jerks on the minute for 5 minutes each. This works really well in groups as the tempo is high and the atmosphere of 21 people lifting gets everyone going. After they had done a few assistance lifts it was time for Tommy to take over and give them an OLF special; a nice intense conditioning session utilising the bars, kettlebells, Bulgarian bags and body weight. With the tunes pumping and the group 100% up for it, Tommy handed out the challenge and off they went!
