Snatching Bear

Last weeks OWLI Challenge, the first of 2011, called the “Snatching Bear” is as much a technique drill as what it is a conditioning exercise.

It’s called the Snatching Bear in reference and tribute to the Bear which is a barbell complex involving the Clean and Jerk/ Press, Back Squat and Press. The focus of the SnatchingBear is to work on the 3rd Pull or the Pull under Phase of the Snatch. This is the bit that I have the most trouble with- I just don’t get under the bar quick enough!!

In the Snatching Bear you perform: a Snatch from the High Hang (Hip); a Snatch from just above the Knee; and a Snatch from the Floor. The aim is to do this 5 times without stopping and with 40kg. Again the emphasis is on the Pull Under, so really try and get under that bar quick! Quicker than I did anyway!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
